Advent Calendars |

Welcome one and all to the greatest December 2003 competiton of all time! Nope, not a chance to own every number one album of 2003 (P.S. this would include Muse's great album 'Absolution'), or to fly around the world in a fighter jet in order to celebrate the beginning of the new year in every time zone. Nope, the chance to win the as yet undecided mystery prize...
What is this competition I hear you ask? It's a game of prediction. I had a Boohbah advent calendar... what a Boohbah is wasn't important to me, the little doors with chocolate in were. The chocolates are always in little moulds and as such have a picture of a random Christmassy item on them - this picture is also shown in full colour inside the door. What the contestants had to do is guess what this picture will be. The sooner their guess appears the better points they got - and as a bonus they could change their guess and potentially score again! The winner was the one with the most points come Christmas Eve (traditionally when advent calendars stop).

Ah yes. My sister also entered, but it became clear that she was cheating. This was mainly due to the fact that she was opening the doors of her advent calendar as I took her entry down the phone, and didn't mind freely admitting as much. This unfortunately lead to the following unfortunate decision being made:

So, congratulations Alessandro!! You truely are a winner! Once he took the lead he never looked back, his inspired choices of Santa and Reindeer (the ultimate Christmas couple it has to be said) guiding him to victory, albeit by only 5 points, over Dan, whose choices of a Gift and Holly did him proud. My Mum was the only other person to score twice (Xmas Pudding and Robin) but she lost out to me in the final standings as I had a higher scoring individual item.
All that remains to be said is one final congratulations to Alessandro, Dan and me for finishing in the top 3, and a big thankyou to all who took part. And as you're tucking into your Christmas dinner this Christmas Day, spare a thought for those unfortunate ones who didn't score any points, despite having good guesses (Christmas Tree! How more Christmassy can you get?).
Happy Christmas everyone :)
